Can't get to the backtester
Despite having logged in, when I try to get to the backtester, the site tells me that the service is free but that I will have to log in.

Could you try to log out and back in again? It could be that if you were logged in under the previous version of the site, that the login cookie or something similar has changed in some weird way...
